Independence Path: “Not the Warmongers but the People Who Want Peace Will Win!”

Independence Path has issued a statement about jet planes flying low over Louroujina during a military exercise in the south of Cyprus.

The statement written by the External Relations secretary Nehir Ozkizan said, “We condemn both the chauvinistic provocation and those in the north who are attempting to use this event to legitimise their own chauvinistic propaganda. We call upon the Greek Cypriot people and progressive organisations to stand against such chauvinistic politics.”

Statement says:

Nowadays, which our region is going through tense days with reactionary and nationalist conflicts in the Middle East, we learned that Greek F16 aircraft were used in a military exercises in South Cyprus. Moreover, border violations were made in this military exercise. The low altitude flight of aircraft around 8 pm in the village of Luricina in the northern part of Cyprus caused panic among the local people.

A missile that fell from the war in Syria in the last month caused panic on both sides of our island. On the other hand, the bloodshed in the Middle East has increased with operations carried out in northern Syria by Turkey. Meanwhile, with the search for natural gas, the tension in our island has increased. Taking into account all of these, themilitary exercise and border violation do not fit any logic. This is clearly a provocation.

As Bağımsızlık Yolu, we condemn this chauvinist incitement as well as those who try to use this issue in the northern part of Cyprus to legitimize their chauvinistic policies. We call upon the Greek Cypriot people and their progressive organizations to stand against these chauvinistic policies.

Not the Warmongers but the People Who Want Peace Will Win
