“The Day Shall Come, That Day Shall Come When Tyrants Won’t Be No More”

“What days are bringing today is oppression, injustice, and blood…”

Private sector labourers working for long hours, being unseemly treated; incompatible with human dignity, deprived of any social security, know this very well… Their working life which is determined by the random decisions of their boss, is now also a focus of the occupational murders, breaking the record every year…

“What days are bringing today is oppression, injustice, and blood…”

Women who are murdered, beaten up, oppressed, on the street, at a café, on campus, at home, and anywhere that men can have access to, know this very well… The fact of violence against women that has been denied for years is now everywhere and is undeniable…

“What days are bringing today is oppression, injustice, and blood…”

Children whose individuating rights are denied, who have been brought up with oppression and beating, who are facing abuse, rape, and death, know this very well… In recent years, child abuse in the north of Cyprus has been on the rise like never been before.

“What days are bringing today is oppression, injustice, and blood…”

Expelled, shoved, beaten up, hungry, thirsty, and outdoor street animals, and living creatures in the wild whose living space is sacked and existence conditions are abolished, know this very well. The number of animals run over, being shot, or poisoned are increasing. Our mountains are downgraded – so that, the concrete buildings can spread more efficiently – our beaches, our sea, in brief, our nature is systematically destroyed.

“What days are bringing today is oppression, injustice, and blood…”

While economic crisis gets deeper, the unemployment and poverty are on the rise. Conservatism and religious reactionism – supported by the hegemons and shown as a solution to this rising despair – have been spread to anywhere visible. While the government is supporting neo-liberal policies and keeping its hands off the education and health services, the capital stock is profiting more, sucking every one of all ages and all genders in like a vampire…

The Cyprus Talks on the agenda – claimed to be an end to all of the above – is only comforting us by distracting from our own issues. The mainstream left-wing and their radical extensions – who made a call to “encourage the leaders” rather than bringing our real problems created by the hegemons to the negotiation table – have been fooling the people for years. The disappointment experienced every time the negotiations hit the wall has been taken under control without being evolved into a peace struggle focusing on class inequality. The Republic of Cyprus, marked with the great chauvinism by the Greek Cypriots, is not accepting our community as a subject anyway. Exactly like the government of Republic of Turkey treating our people as their “nurture” by blocking the manufacture, as well as viewing the north of Cyprus as a booty to fool around…

And now the loop is getting narrower: Tayyip Erdogan’s regime within the Republic of Turkey is taking the shape of a more autocratical dictatorship… Meanwhile, in Turkey’s lower management -trnc (turkish republic of northern cyprus)-; children are dying in car crush on their way to school, while the ministers’ Mercedes and their suits get more and more expensive, and the unlawfulness and corruption are at peak…

“However this shan’t go forever, exploitation shall not continue…”

Despite the current conditions, Turkish Cypriot community is not out of alternatives and remedy. There is a young, dynamic, revolutionist alternative; rejecting the sour slackness of the established dealings, more importantly, being fed from the creative power of the class struggle…

Independence Path is calling Turkish Cypriot community to the streets on 1st May; with the spirit of the 2011 Social Existence demonstrations, with the youth’s energy as in the #rejecting (#reddediyoruz) struggle, with our streets’ mud, our lowlands’ sun, and with the labour’s creative power…

For an independent, united Cyprus, for brotherhood and sisterhood on our island, for a future where the labourers’ great effort gets a fair shot, for a life with unions and social security, for a future where violence against women, children, and against nature ends; let’s extend our organised struggle, and meet at the Independence Path cortege…

Because “the day shall come, that day shall come when tyrants won’t be no more.”
